Niacin overdose? I have been taking large doses of niacin lately.I read that can lower your cholesterol levels.Yesterday someone i took 3,000 mg.Does not know if this is harmful or dangerous? What happens if you overdose of niacin?
Yes, too much niacin is dangerous. Last month, I took a doctor prescribed niacin, 500 mg, and after about three weeks, the account I had a severe reaction to it. I became so hot that I thought I literally on fire, I had shortness of breath, lower blood pressure and I fainted. When my husband made me aware of passing my blood pressure was 69/47. Please talk to your doctor before taking niacin and 3,000 mg sounds way too much. Oh yes and the drug has been prescribed for cholesterol. The ER doctor told me not to take more.

3000 mg is a LOT! Even at 500 mg per day can damage your liver. You should check with your doctor, you may need blood tests every two or three months to check your liver.
This level (more than 1500mg) may have side effects. You could not get the same serious as liver failure and hyperglycemia, but you can get indigestion, dry skin and rash.
Do you need to lower your cholesterol? You may take it and do not need. Niacin is a vasodilator and can cause flushing. Symptoms of overdose include:
Signs and symptoms of overdose of niacin include: rapid heartbeat, reddening of the skin (also a typical side effect), itching, nausea and vomiting, abdominal pain and severe liver damage (hepatotoxicity, which lead to symptoms of flu).
You should talk to your doctor if you should be on it and if so, what are your dose should be.
