Do cortisol levels high or low cortisol levels cause panic, anxiety, stress and insomnia? I researched and found that there are conflicting reports. I read that half the sources say high levels of cortisol are to blame for anxiety, insomnia, panic and stress and the other half said low cortisol levels are to blame. So who is? Low or high?
The answer is not as simple as that. I lived and live at a time. I had Cushing's disease is too much cortisol and when pituitary surgery was unsuccessful, I finally had my adrenal glands removed. So now I have too little cortisol.
When I had too, and I can say this was true for many whom I speak - to give an example, when I was in a car, it felt like all the cars came to me. My insomnia was terrible because my cortisol was raised during the night.
Having too little, I am not able to respond well to stress and emotion and more stressed in different ways. I also have insomnia. I found that symptoms of weakness are similar enough to be high, except for throwing cookies.
If I had to pick one, panic, anxiety, insomnia, stress and are more often associated with higher levels.
Ive had a health problem for 4 years, please email me so I can explain it, it sounds a bit like what you've experienced and my dr is in the dark. monajune2001@yahoo.com Flag
High levels of cortisol are associated with stress.
