Heartburn No More

Posted on March 11, 2010.
Heartburn No MoreWhen heartburn more than heartburn?

For the last 3 months, I had heartburn that got progressively worse. Previously, only at night to keep me for hours, but now it is constant, no matter what I eat, and even though I have not eaten for a while. It feels like it moves from the stomach to the back of my throat and is an intense burning. I also "burp" all the time, but the bubbles never reach the mouth, they kind of end in the middle of my chest. I've tried Tums, Zantac, Pepsid, Maalox, nothing works. At night, the only way I can sleep is to wake up every two hours and drink a sip of milk. It is so bad I'm going to cough that eventually make me sick. I have no health insurance so I can not afford to go to the doctor. Any advice on what could be wrong or what I can do to make it go away? Thank you!

It appears that you have acid reflux. My father has. Stay away from Caffin, any food that is tomato is acidic, fruit CITRIS. He went to doctors for him and he is now under control. Try to take Prolosac OT. (I can not write the name) It will take several days to take effect. If this does not work, you should consult a doctor. If acid reflux gradually erode your esophagus. In the meantime, try not to sleep flat on your back to help my father during the night. He slept in the chair.

You probably have the acid reflex syndrome and should consult a doctor. The acid that comes from your stomach is not just to give you heartburn, there is damage to your esophagus as well. If you are unable to afford to see a doctor (this is much more important than all the extras that you offer), then you need to consult all the free clinics in your area. Immediately. Remember that if you had insurance you would pay a premium each month - to take the money and consult a doctor.

Sounds like you may have acid reflux. This issue must be addressed as soon as possible. In the meantime, try Galvacon. It is sold
on the counter antacid and only help
with acid reflux. You may need to adjust your diet
to non-acid foods. Avoid foods that have
tomato products-Basic Food Mexican and spicy foods
trigger reflux. Over time, acid reflux, if left untreated, will destroy the lining of your stomach and
your esophagus. I have acid reflux and had to go
an ENT doctor for help. I developed a hyattle
hernia (sp?). I would go into fits of coughing that made me choke. You do not need treatment. Hope this helps.

What you have is GERD (gastroesophageal reflux) is most likely. Reflux occurs when stomach acid spurts into the esophagus. That is what is burning. Your cough is probably because you suck in stomach acid into the lungs. You must find a way to get treatment for it. It is a dangerous disease. Your esophagus is inflamed and you may get pneumonia from aspiration of acid into your lungs. This must be treated by a doctor who will test to look you in the stomach by a tube inserted in the mouth (not painful, your users) to see what happens. Call social services or call and see if there is a free clinic in your area. Please that happens. I have and take medication. and no more problem.

Sounds like acid reflux disease for me. I've had since 1989 and have found Prilosec OTC works very well. It is available on the counter and is rather cheap and the drugs will acid reflux. ($ 25 for 42 tablets taken once per day)

A prescription drug called Nexium is much more $ $ $ and my doctor says Prilosec is virtually identical to it.

Stay away from chocolate, soda, coffee, tea or anything that has caffeine.

Hope this helps

Eat several small meals.
Do not leave your stomach too full.
You can not only cope with GERD, but you can have a hernia which is hiatial contrib.
