3 important things your doctor will not tell you if you have GERD (acid reflux) In our growing up years we have been trained like good children, and possibly good citizens to trust our doctor, the doctor is always right, and the doctor knows best. These words were drawn in me as a child and my college years and adolescence. However, when I was diagnosed with GERD (acid reflux), I discovered the hard way that what it says it can also turn against you. I say honestly that the doctors are great in terms of diagnosis, but often - not every time - they are the worst in the treatment, if it was based on my experience and the state.
I learned in my many check-ups with the doctor there some things that he does not tell you - especially if you have GERD or reflux, as I have been.
1. "You'll Get Well Soon". - If your doctor ever said that to you, it means that you get symptoms of GERD and not the root cause. My doctor even told me in advance that I will have this disease for life, and as a word of encouragement, told me that I can handle and live for 100 years! It was from a prominent gastroenterologist gastrointestinal, and he really hurt my heart.
2. "Your medicine is for life." - I do not think so, although I have heard many people implying that it would be in my case. I have been taking antacids (Tums), Maalox, Prevacid , Nexium and a consistent basis and follow doctor's orders as stated in the order. Usually, it is only for 2-4 weeks. However, they never say you're going to be dependent for life! They use only the words, "just take it as needed." Well, in my case before, and with the way things went, I was forced to take effect until the age of 100, if I never live to be long!
3. "Your medicine has side effects, which can be more deadly than your current situation." - Now that's be honest, but it's true. No doctor will tell you straight away that these prescriptive medications can be taken continuously and there are a ton of potential complications that could hurt more than help you in the long term (eg, esophagitis, gastritis, Barrett's esophagus, cancer of the esophagus). Most doctors are silent on these issues, and they are not aware that people like me become dependent drugs such as would do more harm than cure my GERD or acid reflux!
This may not be the case with your doctor, but he has been the case for mine. Only when I turned to find a natural remedy for GERD (acid reflux), and adopted a holistic approach in my treatment, I started seeing an improvement - painless and permanent.
