Dog Skin Disorders

I took my dog to the vet, he has a hereditary skin condition, they gave me a lot of drugs and cost me an arm and a leg and nothing they gave me helped. I do not really have the money to keep taking him to the vet so they can give me things that do not work. So I was wondering if anyone had dealt with this kind of thing or has any kind of ideas that will help you.

What kind of dog do you have: shar pei, bulldog?
these two races are almost guaranteed to have skin problems.
