Best food for older dogs with food allergies, itching and biting? I have a dog over 12 years suffering from food allergies, she is constantly itching and biting. The vet said she has food allergies, and given prednisone, which does not help. My husband does not remember if the vet recommended a special food. It has an advantage for fleas, so it's not a flea problem. I have 3 dogs at all, and it is the only one with this problem. Are there any dog food that will facilitate its food allergy?
I look for one that is lamb and rice. Or you might consider the kitchen.
Go talk with people in a department store for pets. They often have great knowledge of their products.
If you can not remember what the vet said, call them and ask but I agree, corn and corn products is the first thing I remove from the diet.
try Science Diet ... it is really good ... my vet recommends for my two dogs
You can also try by pet food Nature, they are available at Petsmart and online. If she is itching herself much, give him a bath in oatmeal and use a conditioner on his hair.
My daughter has the same problem with his dog. She feeds her dog chicken (chicken breasts, she returned in ordinary water, cooled and tears into small pieces. You can also use a mincer). She also cooks green beans, carrots, peas, until soft and mix with chicken. It worked well for her and the dog.
My dog also has many allegories so i cook food for him. I got the recipes in this book Dr. Pitcairn complete secret to natural health for dogs and cats by: Richard H. Pitcairn and Susan Hubble Pitcairn. it helped me a lot. also you may want to Omega 3 fish oil tablets soft and give your dog a once a day every half an hour before breakfast. its very good for skin and nails and there fur and this has helped my dog's itching to go. I hope I helped
You must give a single protein diet. Hills Z / D is a good thing. Royal Canin is good too. In doing so, you can not give him anything. No treaty, unless they are allergic specific. You can have it tested to know exactly what she is allergic, but it's quite expensive.
Good luck!
I think the best food for dogs with allergies is very California Natural ... it has the list of ingredients the most limited, a dry food. Another option would be one of the formulas developed by Natural Balance Allergy. Taste of the Wild a few formulas with unique proteins (bison, duck), but California has the least natural ingredients, which means less chance of containing an allergen. All dogs can eat any of these foods.
you should try to find a grain free food like dogs or the taste of nature. corn-soybean and wheat are the major allergens in dogs. If the allergy is severe enough, you can try Dick Van Pattens Natural Balance. This is a limited diet of ingredients which means there is a single protein and carbohydrate, so there is less to be allergic. I would like to try sweet potato and fish, or sweet potato and venison formula that fewer dogs can be allergic to those as chicken or lamb. success
Corn, wheat and soybeans are the most common allergens in dog food, then look for without these ingredients. My dog does great beauty. Some dogs may be allergic to certain sources of protein (usually chicken or beef), so you can try a lamb or fish based food, if you think it is. Read the ingredient labels on dog treats too.
A veterinarian recommended a special food?
