ENTOCORT EC (budesonide) is a prescription medicine (the only drug approved by FDA) for treating mild to moderate Crohn's disease involving the ileum and / or ascending colon. Entocort EC drug acts primarily in part of the small intestine called the ileum and part of the large intestine called the ascending colon that Crohn's disease is usually found in these areas.

Entocort works by reducing inflammation (one of the problems in Crohn's disease). As a type of corticosteroid, Entocort works by reducing inflammation of the intestines. Entocort drugs available by prescription only and comes in the form of a capsule is usually taken once a day in the morning.

Entocort steroids is specifically designed to be released in the gut (and not in the stomach). When Entocort is absorbed by the body to changes of the liver in most other compounds that do not have the side effects of steroids. Some general considerations for when and how you should take Entocort EC for optimal results are:

• Entocort EC is in the form of a capsule and should be taken orally once daily in the morning.
• Entocort EC can be taken with food or on an empty stomach, but if it seems to bother your stomach, try taking it with food.
• Entocort EC capsules should be swallowed whole. You should not chew, crush or open capsules.
• You should not drink grapefruit juice or eat grapefruit while taking Entocort EC
• For Entocort EC to function properly, it must be taken as prescribed

Side effects are possible with the use Entocort EC, but not everyone who takes the drug will have problems. It was found that most people tolerate fairly well. If side effects do occur, in most cases they are minor and either require no treatment or can be easily treated by you or your health care provider. Serious side effects are less known. Some Entocort side effects include headache, respiratory tract infections and nausea.
