Antihistamines For Dogs

Posted on February 15, 2010.
Antihistamines For DogsThere antihistamines for dogs?

I have a vet appointment tomorrow because I want to discuss a more severe allergy to my dog. She has always had allergies sweet, but it was nothing but a Benadryl occasionally could not fix (which was recommended by my vet to do, please do conferences).

In summer, this year, my vet had to give him an allergy shot. He did it because he hoped that his allergies worse was a "season" thing ... I had hoped that, too, but now it just gets worse again so I think perhaps not.

Anyway, I think it needs a common type of allergy treatment strong and I was wondering if anyone knows of an antihistamine or other allergy treatment for dogs are not expensive. In this case, I'll work on a way, because I do not want it to be more unhappy. But I hope there is a cheaper alternative that works.

All the ideas I bring to my chat with my vet tomorrow would be much appreciated. Thank you!

There are injections against allergies to pets, but you need to know exactly what the allergens are. Make a skin test is required skin - blood / serum allergy test is not nearly effective as skin and gives false positive in general. Costs are generally not cheap though, but next to avoid allergens that there is not much else you can do w / o being harmful to health in the long term pet . (Like steroids) is best known triggers, even if these are things like grass, shrubs, trees if you know where you are and what we can do. Just give medication on a wide guess is not really effective.

Benadryl

Benedryl

Sorry, I can tell you that our experience is not so different from yours and share the frustration of finding the right solution to help a beloved pet.

My dogs each get two Benadryl twice a day (55 pounds) every day and this suggestion veterinarian, combined with the change of their cakes to someone who has no corn, by-products or artificial colors or preservatives has finally did the trick. The occasional dose and lower doses could not prevent them from becoming bright pink and itchy and even greater dose of Benadryl every day was not enough, even if it does not help.

We used to have a dog that was actually allergic to grass and he received injections against allergy regularly and this has helped, but they are better as you say, "priceless."

There I do not know what his name but a few years ago my dog has very bad skin reaction to his flea and tick topical treatment. Benedryl is not cutting it for two weeks, he was on a pill, I think it started with a "K" or a "C". Anyway, I had to give him twice a day and $ 2 $ 7 weeks was similar. Not bad and it really helped him recover from his bad allergic reaction. Also there were changes in his food? Sometimes companies "improve" their recipe, and change any of the material. This also happened to my dog once and it did not change and change. I wish you good luck with your dog, and we hope she feels better soon.
