Is anxiety meds cause hair loss or weight gain? I want to take anti-drugs, but they say it could cause hair loss or gain of weight, as much as 50 lbs. I do not want to go through. is also the permanent loss of hair or does it repel?
What brand of drugs against anxiety do not have these side effects?
A good friend of mine (female) went through a major depression over the past two months, during which time she took a high dose of Effexor (an antidepressant) and a low dose of Klonopin (an anti-anxiety). I would say that for the past 5 weeks she has lost hair every day at an alarming rate. His once thick, long hair has now thinned and the brain begins to decline.
The vocational school of thought so far is that it is his own depression and anxiety that is causing the hair loss, but I can not help but see a connection with drugs that it takes. Both Effexor and Klonopin can cause hair loss, but these side effects are rare.
I was on Celexa antidepresant another that contributes to anxiety and didn't experience any hair loss. It has some sexual side effects, talk to your psychiatrist about it.
